HESTA: Super Funds Should Consider ‘Impact Investing’ (subscription)

HESTA chief investment officer Rob Fowler has issued a rallying call to his fellow industry super funds to look more closely at impact investing as state governments look to ramp up more projects in the social housing, disability and employment sectors.
In September HESTA made the largest single commitment to the local impact investing market by pledging $30 million to the Social Impact Investment Trust managed by Social Ventures Australia.
Mr Fowler said the initiative would allow HESTA to make direct and indirect investments in a range of businesses, housing projects and social impact bonds that delivered both financial returns and identifiable and quantifiable social impact.
