Manitobans are going to hear a lot about a new strategy to fund government programs in the coming months.
They’re called social impact bonds and they could save taxpayers money while improving services. They began in the United Kingdom five years ago, have spread to the United States, and are already catching on in Saskatchewan.
Now the Manitoba Tories want to bring them here.
Earlier this month, Tory Opposition leader Brian Pallister announced a Conservative government would use social impact bonds as a way of raising private capital to help finance social programs, like helping reduce recidivism among young offenders.
